Our creative curriculum theme this half term is Fire, Fire! We will be learning about different types of materials and the different properties they have. We will then investigate whether materials can be changed through heating and cooling. We will also explore whether these changes are reversible or not. Following on from this we will understand which materials are flammable. We will then learn about the Great Fire of London and will understand how the building materials used at the time played such a big part in the fire. We will learn about the main events of the fire, the diarist Samuel Pepys and how London was re-built after the fire. We will be exploring what we have learnt about the fire in written work, art and music.
Below you will find resources and videos about materials and the Great Fire of London. You will also find photographs of our work in our Year 2 Gallery.
This web shows planning for this topic and how the theme will be taught in each subject.
Here are some resources to help you learn more about the Great Fire of London.
This project was created by a group of six students from De Montfort University taking part in the Crytek Off the Map competition. We were tasked with creating a gritty representation of 17th century London. For more cool stuff to do with the project and to see the making of, check out our blog!
As part of our work on the Great Fire of London we will also be learning about fire safety. We will have a fire safety talk from a fireman and also hope to visit a local fire station.
