Year 5 have been helping to make habitat hedges and plant fruit bushes. As a reward for all their hard work they spent quite a lot of time building dens and had a competition to see who could build the tallest twig tower.
As the weather turns colder we have been making bird feeders, practising our whittling skills and using team work to make wooden reindeers.
Year 3 have been busy planting willow cuttings, pond dipping and using their listening skills to play games.
This half term we have been using tools to make 'log hogs' or 'log books' and we have tried our hand at making dandelion jam! We spent a long time picking the dandelion petals, making sure we only collected the yellow petals and no green bits. Next we boiled them over our campfire with sugar, water and lemon juice. Sadly it didn't set like jam, but still tasted nice on our toast.
Year 6 have been working hard to make a bug hotel to provide a safe place for insects to hibernate in over winter.

As part of our work on The Great Fire of London year 2 have been learning about the different building materials used at the time of the fire. We have also been learning that some materials are more flammable than others. We used the fire pit in the Green Wood to test how flammable different materials are. We discovered that paper, plastic and fabric were the most flammable and that the brick we tested did not burn.
Year 2 have been learning about The Great Fire of London. We used the Green Wood as an outdoor classroom to help us to learn about the different building materials used in 1666 and those used today. We used weaved willow to create a wattle wall and made a daub material from mud. We also built small walls from cement and bricks. This allowed us to compare the different materials and techniques used.
Year 2 visited our the Green Wood to look at seasonal changes and to collect objects as a stimulus for writing Autumn poems. We also used the objects we collected in different art activities.
