Class Teacher: Mrs N Smith
With Mrs T Mitchell and Mrs A Gardner
A BIG welcome to our Year 2 Class Pages. These pages have been created to provide important information about Year 2. We will also add a new information page every half term which explains our Creative Curriculum themes to help support your learning at home. Each page will contain information, resources and a photo gallery so you can see the learning and activities that take place at school.
8 children from Year 2 took part in a golf tournament against other Wyke Schools. We have been working hard to improve our putting and chipping skills in P.E and were really proud to win 2nd place! Here are some photos of the special day.
10th July 2014
We had a fantastic time at The Great Yorkshire show. We enjoyed watching lots of presentations including sheep shearing. After that we went to watch some of our classmates who were riding their ponies in the Ridings Ring. We were very proud of them. They looked really smart in their riding outfits. We were proud to hear that after over 2 hours in the ring our classmates came 3rd, 10th and 12th out of the 39 riders taking part. After lunch we walked around the show ground and had the opportunity to meet lots of different animals including; ponies, donkeys, horses, sheep, cows, pigs and goats. The goats were great fun and really enjoyed meeting us! Finally we met some different hounds including beagles. They were friendly and we then took part in a surprise race against the beagles with some of the other children. There were lots of very sleepy children on the coach on the way home. All in all a very fun and memorable day! Please look at our photographs on the slideshows below.
Mrs Garside visited year 2 today to talk to us about the seaside in the past. We dressed up in Victorian clothes and found out that people wore their best clothes when they visited the seaside. We learned about how people travelled to the coast and the different things they enjoyed doing at the seaside including watching Punch and Judy shows and playing games. We also found out about the different types of amusements that were typical of that time.
Andrea's mum brought a baby duckling into year 2 today. We all enjoyed having a cuddle and learning about how she looks after the duckling who was abandoned by it's mum.
Year 2 had a fun morning of Golf Coaching with Sports UK. We have a Golf Tournament taking place in a few weeks and the coach taught us different games that we will complete in the tournament.
We planted two different types of potatoes in early March as part of our topic on plants. We enjoyed harvesting our potatoes today. It was interesting to remove the plants and then hunt for the potatoes in the soil. We counted how many potatoes we had grown. The next day the potatoes were cleaned and cooked. We enjoyed tasting them and comparing the different varieties.
We had a great time performing at our class assembly. Lots of mums and dads came to watch our performance of Little Red Riding Hood. We looked fantastic in our costumes!
Our theme this half term is we're all going on a summer holiday. We will be learning about the seaside and will be comparing seaside holidays today with seasides in the past. Click on the link below to find out more and to see some of the work we have been doing.
As part of our work on special places we were invited to visit St Mary's Church. The church is a very interesting place and we learned about the history of the building and the special celebrations that it is used for.
We have been looking after caterpillars in year 2 as part of our recent work on life cycles. We have learned about the life cycle process and watched them turn into a chrysalis. The butterflies emerged during half term and Mrs Smith looked after them. On the first day back we had a class vote to give the butterflies names and then set them free in the school grounds. The winning names were Rosie and Greg.
We enjoyed making bread and cooking summer vegetable soup with Yorkshire Food Discovery. We learned how to prepare the vegetables and helped to weigh out the ingredients. We even made our own butter to spread on top of the bread. Then we enjoyed tasting the soup and bread (delicious).
