Statement of Intent
At Worthinghead, we value Art and Design because it contributes to the development of the whole child emotionally, aesthetically, spiritually, intellectually and socially. It creates in the child, a sense of enjoyment and purpose and provides pupils with a unique way of perceiving themselves which is essential to their learning. It also broadens the range of opportunities we provide for children to achieve.
The teaching and implementation of the Art and Design Curriculum at Worthinghead is based on the National Curriculum ensuring a well-structured approach to this creative subject. Using the KAPOW framework and scheme of work, staff are supported to be able to offer a high quality art curriculum.
Teachers have a number of units to choose from each year group, to make links where appropriate to other subjects. Each unit has a plethora of artists to learn about, where children base their art outcomes on, developing skills from the chosen artist. The work of famous local, national and international artists are explored to enhance the children's learning.
Welcome to Art and Design at Worthinghead
"Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep."
Scott Adams
At Worthinghead we have a wealth of opportunities for children to explore, create and evaluate their own style and celebrate the skills of others.
The staff recently had an amazing inset day led by Susan Coles who worked with us to look at how Worthinghead can fully support and engage every child's creativity and personality.
Another whole school art collaboration to begin the new school year!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
