In science we will be learning how to identify and name a variety of garden and wild plants including deciduous and evergreen trees.
We will learn to identify the basic structure of a plant by labelling features.
Key vocabulary
Stem | The middle part of a flower. It holds the plant up and transports water. |
Roots | Roots are at the bottom of the plant and anchor it to the ground and suck up water from the soil. |
Wild plants | Plants that grow without being looked after by humans. |
Garden plants | Plants that have been selected by and looked after by humans in their gardens. |
Deciduous | A types of tree that loses its leaves in winter. |
Evergreen | A type of tree that keeps its leaves all year round. |
Bark | Bark covers the tree and keeps it protected from diseases. |
Trunk | The middle part of the tree. It is thicker than a stem but also transports water around the tree. |
