Here are some photographs of the exciting things we have been doing this half term.
As part of our work on healthy eating we have been making fruit smoothies in D.T. We enjoyed preparing the ingredients and tasting the smoothies. We used lots of interesting ingredients and made white, green, orange, purple and fruit smoothies. When we tasted the smoothies we had a vote; the fruit smoothie was the most popular with 23 votes!
Making blackberry fairy cakes
We have also followed instructions to make some 'healthy' fairy cakes. These cakes have fresh blackberries in them and are made with oil instead of butter. We enjoyed measuring and mixing the ingredients.
As part of our healthy eating topic we have made fruit kebabs. We then wrote instructions for to make the kebabs.
Our school nurse visited us this week to teach us about keeping clean and how that helps stop germs spreading. She even brought a special germ machine to see how well we had cleaned our hands. We now know how to clean our hands properly.
We were very suprised to see Florence Nightingale at our school today. It was great to meet her. She showed us lots of interesting things and told us all about her life. She asked us to go to Scutari to help clean the hospital there. The boys were all porters and had to help carry all of the equipment. The girls were nurses and helped to look after the injured soldiers. Florence explained how she cleaned the hospital and made conditions better.
We have been making and tasting different healthy foods as part of our healthy eating topic. We enjoyed preparing and making Leek and Potato soup. We are going to sell soup kits at the harvest festival and we have written recipe instructions for the kits.
As part of our healthy eating topic we have enjoyed preparing and eating different healthy foods. This week we prepared Rainbow Couscous which has lots of healthy ingredients in it. We made two different types and then tasted both to see which we liked the best.
We really enjoyed visiting the Life Caravan at school today. It is lots of fun and we loved seeing Harold again. We talked about our bodies and how to keep them healthy. We also talked about being a good friend.
We were really lucky to take part in a healthy sandwich workshop with Warburtons this week. We learned about the history of Warburtons, how bread is made and how to make healthy sandwiches with different fillings. We then all had a go at designing and making our own sandwich. Then came the best par tof the day; eating them! They were delicious!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
