Trip to Tropical Butterfly House & Falconry Centre, Sheffield
On Thursday 30th June 2016 Class 2 visited the Tropical Butterfly Centre in Sheffield. We had a fabulous time seeing all the different birds and animals and enjoyed two interesting workshops with Paul about Habitats and Feathers, Fur & Scales. This linked into our last topic about habitats. We loved the glass winged butterfly that landed on Imogen's finger and we even saw two birds having an argument!
Queen Elizabeth II - 90th Birthday Celebrations (27th May 2016)
To commemorate the Queen's 90th birthday we held a special street party on the school playground. We all wore red, white and blue clothing and enjoyed a picnic outside. We made flags, paper chains and bunting to decorate the tables.

Year 2 walk to Judy Woods (25th May 2016)
As part of our work on plants and animals we walked to Judy Woods. We studied the different wildlife living there and also looked at the bluebells growing there. We held a special wildlife hunt; we all had to find a living thing that we did not recognise and had to work together to identify it.

We performed our class assembly to our parents and families. We have been learning about plants and animals this half term and our assembly was about this theme. We sang two songs, performed poems and shared our topic work with our parents.

Bradford City Sponsored Penalty Shoot Out (20th May 2016)
We really enjoyed taking part in the Bradford City penalty shoot out. We have spent a few weeks raising sponsorship money from our families. We then had 4 shots against Billy Bantam in goal. We all did really well and enjoyed cheering for our classmates!

Our class butterflies (19th May 2016)
We have enjoyed looking after 4 caterpillars in our classroom for the last few weeks. This has allowed us to observe the life cycle of a butterfly closely. We then held a vote to name our butterflies their names are: Buttercup, Mazy, Wingy and Dan. We let the butterflies go in the wildflower area near our Green Wood.

Guide Dogs visit - 6th May 2016
Mrs Wilson came to visit our class. She brought two Guide Dogs called Leo and Jenna with her. Mrs Wilson explained how Guide Dogs are trained and the different work that they do. She explained how they help people who are registered blind or who are partially sighted. We enjoyed stroking and meeting the dogs. The dogs were very well behaved!

Minibeast hunt in the Green Wood (27th April 2016)
We enjoyed hunting for minibeasts in our school grounds and in our Green Wood. We found lots of different types and worked hard to identify them. We also found lots of frog spawn, 2 adult frogs and 5 baby frogs hiding under a rock in the woods.

World Book Day 2016
We had a fantastic time on World Book Day. We really enjoyed dressing up in our pyjamas and bringing our favourite books into school to share with the rest of the class. Here are some photographs from the day - we also reading with children from Year 4.
Bradford Industrial Museum (11th February 2016)
We had a fantastic time at the Industrial Museum. When we go there we took part in a workshop which explained how cloth was made by hand. We then had the chance to try our each stage. We sorted the fleece to remove dirt. Then we combed and carded the fleece to remove tangles and to get it ready for spinning. After that we tried spinning the fleece into yarn. This was very tricky!. Finally we tried weaving the fleece.

Then we were shown the different machines that made cloth in the mills. The machines made cloth much quicker than by hand. Luckily the machines were working when we visited. They were very noisy! We were told about the different jobs that the machines did.

After lunch we took part in a Victorian Classroom workshop. We learned that children who worked in the mill only went to school for a few hours a week. We had the opportunity to experience what school would have been like in Victorian times. The Victorian Schoolmaster was very strict. We had to sit in silence and could only speak when we were spoken to!

Collage Tudor houses (11th December 2016)
We have been learning about the different building materials used at the time of The Great Fire of London. We enjoyed creating our own Tudor house collages.

Investigating flammability (10th December 2016)
To help to understand the main causes of The Great Fire of London we completed an investigation to test the flammability of different materials. We then discussed the types of building materials used during the fire and the types of materials used today.
Mrs Greenwood made a model of Tudor buildings and set a tiny part alight. The buildings were filled with straw. We were able to observe how quickly the fire spread from one building to the next. There was a also a strong wind which helped us to observe how the wind can blow the flames in different directions.

We have been learning about the different building materials used at the time of The Great Fire of London. We have learned about the old fashioned materials used such as wattle and daub, tar, straw and thatch. To help us understand how these buildings were constructed we built wattle and daub walls in our Green Wood. We then built a brick wall to help us compare the different materials used today.

National Tree Week (December 2015)
To support National Tree week each class has planted a fruit tree in our school grounds. Our class tree is an apple tree. We learned about different varieties of apples and discussed that our variety is called Violette. We are looking forward to watching our tree grow and cooking with its fruit next year.
Fire Safety talk with Mr Robson 30.11.15
As part of our work on The Great Fire of London Mr Robson came to talk to us about fire fighters and fire safety. He told us about the many important jobs that fire fighters do. Mr Robson told us a story about a little girl who played with matches who got badly burned. We promised we will never play with matches. He also brought his special fire fighting uniform to show us. Visiting White Quarry Farm 26.11.15
We really enjoyed our visit to White Quarry Farm. We made our own Christmas wreaths and visited the woodland to collect Holly and Ivy. We then added decorations to make our beautiful wreaths.

We enjoyed our tour of the farm. We learned about the different cereal crops that grow on the farm and visited the grain store. After that we had a look at the different farm vehicles and visited the orchard. We also met and fed the different animals living on the farm.

We have been investigating different materials to see whether they are waterproof. We carefully measured the same amount of water and tested each material. We understand and can describe the meaning of waterproof.

Children in Need 2015 (13th November)
We had lots of fun dressing up as super heroes to raise money for charity. We spent some time thinking about our real life super heroes.

Remembrance Day 2015
We have been learning about the importance of the Remembrance Day and the significance of the poppy. We made a special poppy wreath and wrote messages on our poppies. We held a special assembly and 2 minutes silence.

Life Caravan - 12th October 2015
We enjoyed visiting the Life Caravan and meeting Harold. We learned about the important organs inside our bodies and talked about the different ways that we can keep our bodies healthy. We also talked about feelings and how to be a good friend.

We enjoyed taking part in our school seed gathering day. We identified wheat and barley seeds and then planted them ready to grow next year.

Thackray Medical Museum - 1st October 2015
We really enjoyed our visit to Thackray Medical Museum. In the morning we spent time exploring the Life Zone where we learned about our bodies and how they work.

Meeting Florence Nightingale
In the afternoon we took part in a workshop which helped us to learn about Florence Nightingale. We looked at different artefacts and learned about the improvements Florence made to hospitals. We then dressed up as nurses and porters and went to Scutari hospital to help Florence. It was great fun!

Warburtons Healthy Sandwich Workshop 30.9.15
Warburtons visited our school to teach us about healthy eating and how to make healthy sandwiches. We talked about healthy sandwich fillings and how to make 'rainbow' sandwiches which contain different vegetables. We wrote instructions for how to make a healthy sandwiches.

Making fruit smoothies - September 2015
In groups we enjoyed designing and making our own delicious fruit smoothies. We then wrote instructions for how to make our smoothies.

As part of our healthy eating topic we made healthier buns which contained blackcurrant and yoghurt. We carefully followed some simple instructions to make the buns and then wrote our own recipes.
