Statement of Intent
At Worthinghead Primary School we have a supportive school ethos where everyone is valued and positive relationships are developed and nurtured. Our aim is to provide equality of opportunity for all in a welcoming, stimulating, safe environment.
We encourage individuals to develop their talents and skills, working in partnership with parents/carers, governors and the wider community to promote the life skills needed to become a valuable member of a multicultural society. This policy supports our aim to embed PSHE in the curriculum and throughout school.
We use the SCARF (Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship) Curriculum to teach PSHE across school. SCARF is part of Coram Life Education. We believe this underlines the importance of PSHE and its place at the heart of our learning.
PSHE is delivered through creative, hands-on learning activities that engage and inspire the children. The curriculum enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible citizens.
Topics within SCARF include:
Relationships and Sex Education.
We teach Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) through the appropriate SCARF units. Our plans are in line with the Government’s new guidelines for teaching Relationships and Health Education which will be statutory from Summer 2021. We have consulted with parents on our Relationships and Sex Education Policy – whilst the science aspects of sex education are statutory, primary schools must decide what other content is taught. The planned lessons are included on our PSHE long term plan which can be found above.

What is FRIEND?
Our school motto is FRIEND. This encompasses the positive characteristics we expect the children to show at all times to help them grow into a respectful citizen in society.

Rewards
Children will be rewarded with dojo points for displaying aspects of the FRIEND characteristics. Certificates will be awarded for collecting certain amounts of dojo points. Each class will award certificates linked to FRIEND. Children who receive FRIEND of the Week, will be given a reward of baking with Mrs Greenwood.
Linking Schools
This year, Year 4 will be linking with Year 4 at Westminster Primary School. The children will enjoy a visit to a neutral venue then visit each other schools. The children will have the opportunity to explore and discover more about the different cultures with in Bradford.
