Our creative curriculum theme this half term is London's burning. We will be learning about different types of materials and the different properties they have. We will understand how the properties they have helps to make them suitable for different jobs. Following on from this we will understand which materials are flammable. We will then learn about the Great Fire of London and will understand how the building materials used at the time played such a big part in the fire. We will learn about the main events of the fire, the diarist Samuel Pepys and how London was re-built. In addition to this we will be comparing the fire fighting equipment used today with equipment used in the Fire of London. We hope to have a special visit from the fire service which will help us to learn about fire safety. We will be exploring what we have learned about the fire in written work, art and music.
Below you will find resources and videos about materials and the Great Fire of London. You will also find photographs of our work in our Year 2 Gallery.
