In geography this half term we will name and locate the world’s seven continents and five oceans. We will identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the UK and the location of hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the Equator and the North and South Poles.

Continent | Large landmass containing countries. The 7 continents are Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia. |
Ocean | Large body of salt water that covers most of the Earth's surface. There are 5 oceans: The Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern, Arctic |
Equator | Imaginary line around the middle of the planet. Places close to the equator and warmer than those further away from it. |
Poles | The top (North Pole) and bottom (South Pole) points of the planet. |
Climate | The typical weather pattern associated with a place. |
Country | A land with its own government. Continents are made up of many countries that are close to one another. |
