This afternoon Year 4 reflected on the things they appreciate about their lives, living in Britain and being British.
Aside from the usual 'gadgets', we agreed we should be grateful for our friends and families, hospitals, schools, people who help us and the many wonderful things there are to see and do in Britain.
Each class member was asked to choose a mystery letter of the alphabet and then asked to create this on A3 paper. We then illustrated our work with everything we love about life and at the end of the afternoon we came together to complete our project and create the following statement:
One identity.
One nation.
United today.
4MO put on their hard hats and hi-vis for a trip to Headingley Water Treatment Works.
We were first introduced to the water cycle and found out where the water we use every day comes from.
We then learnt about the ‘Baddies in the Works’ and how the Treatment Works removes them to keep our drinking water safe.
In groups, we were taken on a tour of the site to see how they turn dirty water into clean water. The water was gushing out into large tanks which made it really noisy.
In the classroom, we took it in turns to act out what happens if a pipe leaks underneath the road. We dressed up in hi-vis jackets and hard hat helmets and were given specific job roles to demonstrate the different tasks in the process of fixing a leaking pipe. It was really fun and interactive getting to fix the pipe.
As part of Bird Week, this week, we went into the woods to spot as many different kinds of birds as we could. We counted the birds using a tally system. The robin was the most common bird spotted. We also made bird feeders using pine cones, lard and bird seed. This was then tied to a tree branch using string.
In class today, we have been focusing on the house invasion in the film Home Alone. These are some of the inventive security systems that our class have made to protect the film's protagonist - Kevin MacAllister. We used the app Explain Everything to outline the details behind the design.
