As part of our 'New World' / 'Mexico' topic Year 4 will be learning about volcanoes. We have also made chalk landscape portraits of Mexico's largest volcano - Popocatépetl (see pics below for the results!). Over the next few weeks we will also design our own 3D volcanoes an make them erupt with flowing lava!
Once your model is completed and you wish to make it erupt once again, then why not follow the recipe below to complete at home?
Red food colouring
Fill the container almost to the top with warm water. Add a few drops of food colouring. Squeeze 6 drops of detergent into the bottle. Add two tablespoons of baking soda. Slowly pour vinegar into the bottle. Your volcano will fizz andspurt red lava!
Why does this happen? Can you find out?
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
