Summer 1 - Down on the farm

Down on the farm

This half term we will be learning all about farms and farm animals. We will be reading stories and information books about animals, finding out what they eat, classfitying them according to different criteria and lots more.

Maths

In maths we are learning all about shapes. This week we have been looking at 2d shapes. On Monday 13th April we played pass the parcel. When the music stopped whoever had the bag had to close their eyes and try and guess which shape they could feel in the bag. We had lots of fun.

On Tuesday 14th April we were learning how to sort 2d shapes according to their properties.

This week we have been making patterns. We have made lots of repeating patterns. We used cubes and shapes to make repeating patterns.

On Thursday we made repeating people patterns. We had to think of different things we could do. We used coats, objects, shoes, jumpers and lots more to make our repeating patterns.

On Friday we went out into the playground to look for patterns. Here are some we found.

After we had found patterns in the playground we went to the woods to find different materials. Then we made our own repeating patterns out of natural materials.

End of the story

We have been learning how to write letters. We received a letter from Angela from Swithens Farm so we decided to send one back to her. We all wrote a letter.

Once we had written our letters we wrote Angela's address on an envelope and stuck a stamp on.

On Tuesday 12th May we walked to the post box opposite school to post out letters.

In art we are leaning all about colours. On Friday 17th April we learned how to make a colour lighter and darker by adding white and black. Here are some photos of us painting.

On Tuesday 28th April we made colour wheels.

In our creative curriculum lesson we were learning about the bones in our body. We found out that we had 206 bones in our body.

We made skeletons using cotton buds.

On Tuesday 22nd April the chickens came into our classroom for a visit. we enjoyed watching them jumping and playing.

On Friday 24th April Mrs Greenwood brought the chicks back into our classroom where they are going to live until they are big enough to go outside. This time we put newspaper on the floor to protect the carpet and we were all given some chicken feed. we placed our hands on the floor and the chicks came and ate out of our hands.

Swithens Farm visit

On Thursday 23rd April Year 1 visited Swithens farm in Rothwell. We had a great time feeding the lambs, pigs, cows and goats. We were able to hold a rabbit and feed a lamb with a bottle. Please have a look at the slideshow below of photos of our visit.
