Our first topic this half term is 'Stories from imaginary worlds'. We will be basing our learning on 'The Borrowers' by Mary Norton.

One aspect of SPaG that we are getting to grips with is using fronted adverbials. Fronted adverbials help us start our sentences in different ways and allow us to add more detail.
Suddenly, a ghost appeared at the window.
Angrily, the man left the noisy room.
Soon after, Rachel ran out of the door and into the deep, dark forest.
Without warning, a gust of wind blew the door shut.
Notice that a comma needs to be used after the adverb / adverbial phrase.

For homework over the past few weeks, children in Year 4 have been given the challenge of creating a Borrowers setting out of a cardboard box. We used this as a stimulus for our writing and we will be using it for a sound-proofing experiment later this week!
