Warburtons Healthy Sandwich Making Workshop

On Wednesday 21st September 2016 we were lucky enough to have two Schools Visitors from Warburtons visit Class 2.  They talked to us about healthy eating, the five different food groups and how a healthy sandwich should be a 'rainbow' sandwich with foods of lots of different colours in it.  We all thoroughly enjoyed making our sandwiches by choosing the type of bread we would like and the filling to go in it.  Here are some photos of our afternoon.

London's Burning

This half term we will be learning about different materials and the qualities they have. We will understand how materials are used for different purposes based on their qualities. We will investigate how materials can be changed and whether these changes can be reversed. We will also understand which materials burn easier than others. We will use our knowledge of materials when we learn about the Great Fire of London. We will learn about the important events of the fire including how the building materials of the time helped the fire to spread and the lives of significant people living at the time including Samuel Pepys. We will then understand how London was rebuilt after the fire and how the building materials used today are now very different. Most importantly we will learn about fire safety and we hope to have a special visit from the Fire Service.

This term our theme will be 'Travel Through Time'.  We will be learning about the history and growth of Bradford during the Industrial Revolution into the city it has become today.  We will understand how cloth was produced before the Industrial Revolution and the growth of the wool trade and its factories and mills.  We will also learn about life in Victorian Bradford and about some of the historical buildings that can be found in Bradford today, including the Wool Exchange, Bradford City Hall, Midland Hotel and St George's Hall.  We will learn about the dangerous conditions in mills and will understand what a typical working day would have been like.  The highlight of this half term will be a trip to the Industrial Museum in Bradford on Wednesday February 2017.

Barges were also an important type of transport during the industrial revolution. Factories and mills were often built next to canals so that goods could be transported easily. Barges carried the goods along canals to ports and docks. Canals joined cities and towns together. The Leeds and Liverpool canal still runs next to Bradford today. You can see the Leeds and Liverpool canal in places like Shipley and Saltaire. Bradford used to have its own canal running through the city but this is now closed.
